MUST DO BETTER

The Slovenian goalkeeper, Samir Handanovic, has said that his club Inter Milan is not as strong at the moment as it was a few years ago.

The last season was quite dreadful for Inter Milan. They struggled right through the season and ended up at no. 9 in the Serie A points table. They managed to win just 16 out of their 38 games.

At the end of the season, the boss Andrea Stramaccioni was sacked and Walter Mazzarri was appointed as the new manager.

But, the new manager doesn’t seem to be changing the fortunes of the team either. Inter is still looking pathetic. In the recently played International Champions Cup which was a pre-season tournament, Inter didn’t manage to win a single game. They played 3 games, lost 2, while, one was a draw.

Inter conceded 8 goals in those 3 matches, while, scored only 1.

There was a time when Inter was considered as a European powerhouse. They became Serie A champions 5 times in a row between 2005 and 2010.

2010 was the most special year for Inter as they had won Coppa Italia, Serie A and Champions League together that year. But, after the exit of Jose Mourinho in May 2010, they seemed to have lost their spark.

When asked about Inter’s poor performance in the last season, Handanovic said, “Honestly speaking, we are not a powerhouse any more. We don’t have the quality that we had a few years back. But, we can’t think negatively. We will have to back ourselves.”

When asked about big defeats in the pre-season games, Handanovic said, “That might be blessing in disguise for us. Because of the defeats, we have our feet on the ground and we know that we have a lot to prove. The most important thing for us is to click as a unit.”
