MATAVZ NETS FOR PSV

The Dutch club PSV Eindhoven have been able to maintain their status as the leader in the Dutch Eredivisie after their rivals failed to win their matches in hand during the weekend.

Feyenoord, FC Twente, and Ajax have been the main challenges for PSV this season. Due to the fact that Feyenoord and Twente were playing against each other, there was a chance for PSV to stretch their lead at the top of the table. The team managed by the former Russian manager Dick Advocaat got the perfect result, as Twente and Feyenoord could only manage a draw against each other.

The team managed by the former Russian manager Dick Advocaat got the perfect result, as Twente and Feyenoord could only manage a draw against each other.

This coupled with the defeat for Ajax has meant that PSV will stay top of the table. Ajax came into the match against Vitesse Arnhem on the back of an eight match unbeaten run. Things looked extremely comfortable after they managed to take a two-goal lead in the match. The highly rated Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen was amongst the scorers in the match for Ajax.

However, Theo Janssen scored just 4 min after the goal from Eriksen to spark life into the Vitesse Arnhem team. They completed the unlikeliest of comebacks through goals from Patrick van Aanholt and Renato Ibarra in the second half to seal the victory.

During the same period, PSV managed to complete a stunning 5-1 win over Heracles. The Slovenian attacker Tim Matavz, who has been in fine form during the first half of the season, once again got on the score sheet in the first half, as his goal set the team to a comfortable victory. Lens and Mertens scored one goal each, while the midfielder Wijnaldum came up with a brace that helped PSV open a superior advantage in the league standings. The club will be having an important cup match against their arch rivals Feyenoord in the midweek action.
