Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Onana is expected to sign for Inter Milan on a free transfer in time for the start of next season. The Cameroonian has already passed all the necessary medicals for the free transfer move to go ahead. He is presently representing host nation Cameroon at the ongoing 2021 AFCON tournament. Onana is the first choice goalkeeper for Cameroon who are in the last eight of the tournament and will face debutants Gambia this weekend for a place in the semi-finals.

The specific report from Corrieredello Sport stated that Onana will most likely become the first choice goalkeeper at Inter Milan ahead of Slovenia star Handanovic once he signs for them this summer.

Slovenia shot stopper Handanovic has a few months left on his Inter Milan contract meaning that he could leave the club at the end of this season. Inter Milan officials want the Slovenia international to stay at the club for at least one more season with no guarantee of first team football with the expected arrival of Onana.

Handanovic is at the veteran stage of his career and he’s keen to continue playing at the highest level. He was a key player for the Nerazzuri as they won the Italian Serie A title under Antonio Conte last season and has maintained the same status at the club this season. Inter Milan have a four-point lead over Napoli and AC Milan at the top of the Italian Serie A table having played a game more than the two teams. For this season, Slovenia star Handanovic was part of the team that beat Juventus in the Italian Super Cup.
