The Slovenian national football team has come under major praise after securing a credible draw in a recent friendly match with Scotland.

Even though the Scotland national football team has not been the strongest in recent years, many regard this to be a big step up for the Slovenian national football team.

Slovenia is regarded as one of the young and upcoming teams in the European international scene, while Scotland have achieved a lot in the world of international football. Yet, as they came together in the remote outpost in Slovenia, the rising stars were able to make the most out of the match.

This match certainly does a world of good for the Slovenian national football team, who will be struggling to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Scotland, on the other hand, are expected to be one of the competitors for that position.

This is because even a lesser team in terms of squad strength like Republic of Ireland has been able to qualify for the major tournament like Euro 2012, whereas Scotland have not been able to do so for quite a while now. Celtic players James Forrest and Jamie Mackie were selected up front for Scotland, but they could have clearly done with the presence of Manchester United midfielder Steven Fletcher in the midfield.

“In the first half, we played some excellent football and made some good chances. The inexperienced players will have gained enormously from this experience. Charlie, considering he played 120 minutes on Sunday, I thought was excellent, as was James McArthur and James Morrison,” the Scotland manager Craig Levein said after the match. Jamie Mackie had the chance to win the match for Scotland in the 80th minute, but he squandered his chance to give Slovenia a well-earned draw from the match.
