NYCFC Replaces Spartak Moscow in Florida Cup

After Spartak Moscow has pulled and New York City FC joins Florida Cup lineup in the month of January as they entered into a friendly tournament. The club from Russia had been pushed to withdraw from the competition of 2020 because of the complexities that came up with the visa application of the club.


NYCFC is going to use the tournament for starting with the training for the competition of Concacaf Champions League. This is the club that is known for finishing in the first place in MLS Eastern Conference in the year 2019. Ricardo Villar, the CEO of Florida Cup said that they are thrilled to welcome New York City FC into the platform of international preseason. He has also said that they are looking forward to hosting them as they are preparing for the first-ever Concacaf Champions League.

New York City FC has taken the slot of Spartak Moscow in this tournament and they are going to play against Palmeiras and Corinthians, the two Brazilian powerhouses. The team is going to take on Corinthians on 15th January Wednesday and then on 18th January, Saturday plays against Palmeiras at Exploria Stadium. The two Brazilian teams are going to offer a challenge for the MLS side as they work to shape themselves up for the Champions League.

Héber, the Brazilian native and the striker of New York City FC said that whenever someone thinks of Brazilian football, the two names that come to mind are Palmeiras and Corinthians. Both these teams have produced top-class players and thus, it is going to be a great opportunity for the team to play against them. Héber said that they are going to measure the strength of the team against the two best clubs in South America. This will help to prepare not just for MLS season but for Concacaf Champions League, too.
